Between The Hunts Make Time To Explore
Between The Hunting Bookings Consider Exploring The Local Or Other Tourism Options
  • Once a hunt has ended and before the next one begins, I like to sightsee, learn about the country, and soak in the local culture.

  • This includes enjoying live theatre, concerts, and a wide variety of travel experiences—train, boat, vehicle, or air.

  • Countries like America offer endless options and daily experiences, with something happening somewhere every single day.

  • So when planning your next hunt, consider adding a few extra days and be a tourist.

Sightseeing & Cultural Experiences

  • Local Attractions:

    • Historical sites such as museums, battlefields, and national parks.

    • Landmarks—both natural wonders and iconic man-made structures.

  • Food & Drink:

    • Cuisine tours to sample regional dishes.

    • Cooking classes with local chefs.

  • Arts & Entertainment:

    • Live theatre featuring local productions and festivals.

    • Concerts with regional musicians and bands.

Travel Options

  • Train Travel:

    • Scenic routes with breathtaking countryside views and comfortable transportation.

  • Boat Tours:

    • Explore lakes, rivers, or coastal areas for a different perspective of the landscape.

  • Vehicle Rentals:

    • Full flexibility to discover off-the-beaten-path gems and make spontaneous stops.

  • Air Travel:

    • Short regional flights to cover long distances quickly or reach remote areas.

Planning Your Trip

  • Extend Your Stay: Add extra days so you can enjoy cultural experiences without feeling rushed.

  • Research Local Events: Look up festivals, concerts, or special happenings during your travel dates.

  • Engage With Locals: Hunters, guides, and residents can point you toward hidden gems and must-see spots.

My November 2026 “Between the Hunt” Adventure Across the USA

With three weeks between my last hunt and the next, I decided it was the perfect chance to explore the USA in a completely different way—by Amtrak rail.

I started my journey in Longview, Texas, boarding an Amtrak train that carried me through San Antonio, El Paso, Tucson, and finally into Los Angeles. The trip was a 2-night, 3-day ride in a cozy Roomette, with all meals included. Watching the landscape change from the comfort of my own little cabin was an experience in itself.

In Los Angeles, I checked into the historic Biltmore Hotel for two nights, took in a theatre show, and toured the Warner Bros. backlot, getting a behind-the-scenes look at movie magic.

From there, I boarded Amtrak’s Southwest Chief, heading out of LA and passing through Flagstaff, Albuquerque, Colorado, Kansas, Iowa, and Illinois, eventually arriving at Union Station in Chicago. I spent two nights in the Windy City, enjoying a couple of theatre shows and some unforgettable Italian meals.

I saw 2 very large herds of elk in New Mexico and met some very interesting folks along my journey including some

Pennsylvania Amish families, and so many other interesting stories encounters.

My final leg was the overnight train from Chicago back to Longview, Texas, once again in a Roomette with meals included. It was the perfect way to wrap up the trip—quiet, scenic, and reflective.

After 15 years of driving through many of these towns and cities, seeing them by train added an entirely new dimension. It was a true sightseeing adventure and the perfect way to fill the time between hunts.
